Report from Derek on Last nights match against Exminster A away.

It was a tight game where we seemed to score ones rather than a basket full of shots. We played Ron Smith, Ken Beer and Tom Spencer. For Christow I played lead, Chris two and Ralph skipped. The game was tight but we held the lead for 12 ends, they levelled the score at 9 each on the 13th end and then took a one and a two on the 14th and 15th end respectively. The game changed throughout where we took ones on the first two ends, they levelled on the third; we took ones on the next 4 ends and then they levelled by taking twos' on the next two ends so that after 9 ends it was 6 each, again we pulled ahead only to drop the last three ends. A good game that could have gone either way.

National Mixed Fours Report

Yesterday Christow entered two teams in the mixed fours unfortunately neither team was unable to progress beyond the first round. Although only seven teams entered the standard of play was good and I think we all had an enjoyable day. I should mention the two Christow teams had there own competition after lunch consisting of 12 ends, Trevor's team were by far the best team until the last bowl of the match,Geoff played with  weight got the shot and won the match, It was the flukiest shot ever. Well done Geoff....  Trevor

Teignbridge League Fours 11th March

The Teignbridge League Fours Competition will soon be upon us. It is being held at Christow on Saturday 11th March. If you would like to play, please let Derek know. There will be an entry form on the notice board too.

Exeter League Meeting Report

On Thursday 12th January there was a meeting of the Exeter & District Short Mat Bowls League. The meeting was held at St Thomas Cricket Club at 7.30pm. The Treasurers report showed there to be a nice healthy balance in the account. Draws for the final matches in Division 1 and 2 were made, these being Nomads A v Wonford B (Div 1) and Broadclyst A v Exminster A (Div 2). There was no other business and the meeting was closed at 7.45pm. The next meeting will be on 2nd March. Attendance including Secretary and Treasurer was 4.

More Competitions added

Four more competitions have been added to the Competitions page. These are invites from Wonford for tournaments being held through the year. As before please see Neil for an application form if your are interested in playing.

Christow B v Broadclyst B Result

Christow 21 - Broadclyst 7
Yesterday evening (11th January) Christow B (Neil, Edwin & Janet)  played their home match against Broadclyst B (Jean, Bobby & Alan). Christow took an early lead which they built on during the match to finish with a healthy shot difference. This should help in the Division 2 standings as they are tied on 10 points with Broadclyst B and Exminster A.

Teignbridge League Match against Ideford

Ideford 0 -  Christow 10     Shots: 26 to 60
Last night (10th January) we played the away leg against Ideford in the Teignbridge League. Thank you to the Ideford players who made us very welcome as usual. Both matches played on mat 2 were dominated by Christow with Tom, Carol & Derek winning 12 shots to 5 and  Jim, Brad & Edwin by 21 shots to 5. Mat 1 was not so straightforward, both teams had challenging matches, Geoff, Steve & Janet lead by a couple of shots from the 4th end and after a dead end and jack off the mat managed to pick up another 5 in the last 3 ends finishing with 10 shots to 3. Neil, Chris & Mary struggled with the mat and by end 9 were 13 - 7 down. The last 3 ends were a different matter where Christow managed to tame the mat and pick up 10 shots to win 17 - 13. A good result for Christow at a very tricky venue.

Exeter League Bowls Meeting

There will be a meeting held on Thursday 12th January 2017 at St  Thomas Cricket Club at 7-30pm.  An item of note from the previous meeting under any other business was as follows....

The meeting was told that some clubs were sending in score cards with only  first names on, everyone was told please write the full name of the player  please.  

Devon v Somerset 8th January

Today saw the Devon County Premier and A teams meet Somerset to play the home leg of the round robin Inter-County Championships. This was the final match before the knockout stage gets under way in early February. The premier team had already qualified finished with Devon 10 Somerset 30. For the A teams it was a different matter and they could only afford to give away 8 of the 40 points available. Sadly it was not to be and finished Devon 11 Somerset 29, meaning they have not qualified for the knockout stage. They will be sending 16 players along with the Premier team to the Rinks Final on the 28/29th January

Teignbridge League meeting

Just to remind you that there will be a Teignbridge League meeting on Monday 23rd January at the Buckfast Community Centre commencing at 7.45pm.

South Brent Charity Tournament CANCELLED

The Fours tournament being held by South Brent SMBC on Saturday 11th February has been cancelled. The organisers have struggled to get enough teams to take part and have decided to cancel this years competition.

Christow B v Silverton B Result

On Wednesday 4th January Christow B (Ralph, Janet & Brrad) played their home match against Silverton B. In a very close match right from the start Christow went into the final end holding 2 shots. Silverton had the last bowl and 1 shot to their favour but were unable to capitalise on their position. Well done Christow.
