Ava and Chloe in England Under 18 Trials

On Sunday 30th September, Ava and Chloe will be traveling up to Tamworth to take part in the Under 18 England Trials. They will be playing against the England Ladies team. We are all very proud of you both. Enjoy the day and hope your bowls see lots of chalk.

Frank Tritschler - Abbotskerswell

An update on Frank Tritschler – He had a heart attack on 22 June while riding with his cycle club. He came off the road and collided with a wooden post. He broke his neck and three ribs but more serious was oxygen depravation. A lady gave CPR and Air Ambulance took him to Derriford. For 3 weeks his life was hangi by a thread but happily, during the next 11 weeks Frank has made major steps toward recovery. Frank’s wife Linda has been amazing, supporting Frank and helping co-ordinate the professionals. Frank is now walking and talking, and has a long term challenge ahead to overcome brain injury and memory loss......Ray Vyse

County Fours Report

On Saturday 22nd September, Steve, Brad, Sean and Chloe participated in the County Fours competition at ISCA. The day started with the group stages consisting of 3 games, all of which we won. We then met Yarnscome in the Quarter-Finals. Sean managed to ditch the jack at the end of what was a very tight game, his wood could not be beaten. Our next match was against Nomads (including Ian) in the Semi-Finals. After a tense game we were beaten by 2 shots. A play off for 3rd and 4th place followed,  Bow were our opponents who we overcame after a nip and tuck affair. Finishing in 3rd position give us an entry place in the National Fours next April.....Steve.

The eventual winners were a team consisting of Ava, Barry McPhillips, Carol Dummett And Ralph. Congratulation to them. Any further reports will be posted.

Safeguading and Welfare Officer

The ESMBA, Affiliated County’s and Bowls clubs have a responsibility for the welfare of all its members at risk who take part in the sport. With this in mind, all clubs need to appoint a Welfare Officer with their name and contact number displayed on the board alongside a Code of Conduct. The Welfare Officer would then contact the County Safeguarding Officer, his details are listed on the Devon Website. Templates for the Code of Conduct covering club members and club officials including volunteers will be put on the board for further discussion.

County Triples Raffle in Memory of Irene Smith

On Sunday's County Triples Competition at ISCA, the raffle will be in memory of Irene Smith. She was the past County Secretary. All proceeds will be going to her trust fund at the Hospice. If any player/spectator can bring draw prizes for this it will be a great help as we try to raise as much money as we can for this cause

Jurassic Inter-Area Challenge

Yesterday Brad, Chloe, Geoff, Ian, Jim, Neil, Sean, Steve, Tom & Trevor travelled to Cloakham in Axminster to take part in the Jurassic Inter-Area challenge. 4 teams (Dorset, East Devon, West Devon & Jurassic) took part, playing 3 matches each. 15 ends for the Pairs, 13 for the triples and 11 for the Fours, each area entered two teams for each discipline. There was a good supply of bacon rolls to greet you after the early morning start and plenty refreshments throughout the day with a choice of Baguettes for lunch. The day's bowling was enjoyed by all and became quite tense at times in the heat of the hall. The event was won by Dorset with West Devon finishing in second place. The  Sidmouth Lifeboat had been selected as the local charity for the event and received a cheque for £1000. Thank you to Trevor for organising and captaining the West Devon team.
