Exeter League Result for Christow B
Last night Christow B (Derek, Chris & Neil) travelled to Silverton to meet their B team in our 5th match in this years Exeter League. We were made very welcome by Silverton and enjoyed a very close competitive game. The game was played on the middle mat which looks fast but in fact is very slow. The match started with both teams scoring over the first 5 ends and the score being tied at 4 shots each. By the 8th end Silverton had taken a 4 shot lead, not for long though as Christow went into the final end with lead of 1 shot. Unfortunately we were unable to hold onto the advantage and finished the game 11 shots to their 14. An enjoyable and frustrating game at the same time

Pairs Tournament 11th November
The Teignbridge Pairs tournament was held on Saturday 11th November at the Teign Valley community hall christow. As usual with the Teignbridge events there was a really good atmosphere, friends meeting each other and catching up with the gossip accompanied by four games of tight competitive play. 12 teams from the seven villages played four games of ten ends with three woods. After two games play was put on hold for a cream tea and this was followed by a further two games. During this tea break Ken Beer (the Teignbridge League competition Secretary) presented the Teignbridge league trophy to Trevor Tregillus (Captain of Christow) for winning the league in the 2016/17 season. Trevor had organised a special cream cake for everyone and I can assure you that they were truly delicious as well as looking beautiful. Thanks to Mo for all her hard work.
In the Pairs tournament Abbotkerswell A set the pace by winning their first game 21shots to 1 shot but the tournament was to be decided by points and shot difference only played a part in the event of a tie on points. Kinsteignton A won 10 – 2 and Kingsteignton B 15 – 3 so plenty to play for, not all games were so clear cut Bishopsteignton B drew with Buckfast A at 8 shots apiece – this was to prove crucial at the end of the day . This level of play continued all afternoon and it always seems strange that it comes down to the last wood of the last end. Abbots were playing Buckfast and needed two to draw, Ray Vyse played a cracking shot (no pressure!!!) and it looked tight but the teams agreed on one shot. While this drama was going on Kingsteignton were staying focused and won all their games with a large shot difference.
The results for the tournament were:
Winners - Kingsteignton A with 12 point and +35 shot difference
Second - Bishopsteignton B with 10 points and + 28 shot difference
Third - Abbotskerswell A with 9 points and +33 shot difference
Kinsteignton won the tournament last year and a hearty congratulations to them for the taking the trophy home for a second year. Well done Kingsteignton.

County/Nationals Over 55's Summary
Today 4 teams from Christow competed in the County/Nationals Over 55's at ISCA. All were drawn into different groups of 4 teams,. There were 5 groups in total. Ralph & Ian along with Trevor & Neil played in the first session. Janet & Edwin played the second session with Maureen & Geoff. There was a break of 35 - 40 mins between matches as each session played their 10 ends. The top team from each group went through to the knockout stage along with the 3 highest runners up. Unfortunately non of the Christow teams managed to progress to the knockout stage. Apart from this it was an enjoyable few hours of bowls and good practice for tomorrows Triples.

The result was very good for Christow with 2 wins before tea and a win and draw after. The final score was 9 points (including the 2 bonus points) to Christow and 1 to Bishopsteignton. A great start to the season, well done Christow.
