Bishopsteignton Away Match Report

12 players along with their fan club (thanks for the support) travelled to Bishopsteignton for the last away match for Christow in this season Teignbridge League. The first session saw Ava, Sean & Ian playing on mat 1 and Chloe, Brad & Jim on mat 2. Both mats are quite slow and have the slight quirks you would expect from a village hall with a wooden floor. Ian and his team played a good game but to their frustration so did Bishops who did not allow them to settle into the game. Jim's team started strongly and pulled out an 8 - 3 lead by the 7th end and managed to win the game by 4 shots. After tea and biscuits session 2 got underway with Mary, Geoff & Neil on mat 1 and Maureen, Ralph & Trevor on mat 2. Neil's team got off to a good start by scoring 5 shots on the 2nd end which helped them maintain the lead through the match and finished with a 4 shot advantage. Trevor and his team got off to a positive start and had a good battle and pushed bishops to the final end, but were unfortunate to loose the match by 1 shot. A very enjoyable evening despite the result.

Points score:  Christow 4 Bishops 6
Session 1.
Mat 1 - Christow 4 Bishops 19    Mat 2 - Christow 11 Bishops 7

Kingsteignton Home Match Report

last night it was the turn of Kingsteignton to visit Christow to do battle in the Teignbridge League. Christow went into the match in 3rd place on the league table, 3 points behind 2nd placed Bishopsteignton but with 2 games in hand and 13 points behind Abbotskerswell with the same number of matches played. A win on all 4 mats and the bonus points was what Christow needed to keep the pressure on Abbots and that is just what they did. Derek, Brad and Jim on mat 2 played a great game scoring heavily early on in the game and kept the lead to the finish after Kingsteignton rallied in the closing stages. Chris, Ian and Tom on mat 1 did not allow Kingsteignton to get settled and dominated the match, although their skip Andy did put up some resistance later on in the game. After the tea break it was the turn of Ralph, Geoff and Neil on mat 2 and Beryl, Sean and Trevor on mat 1.both teams won their matches with very similar margins in the final score that were seen in the first session. The results show that mat 1 is more of a challenge to visiting players. Well done Christow.......see you at Bishopsteignton on Sunday. 😮"COME ON CHRISTOW".

Devon County A Team Match Report against Buckinghamshire

This weekend an unchanged team from last week travelled back to Daventry Indoor Bowls Club for the quarter finals of the ICC competition. With the confidence they gained from the previous weeks win at Tamworth against Surrey and the win against Somerset in the final of the ICC Rinks at Daventry two week ago, the team were going to be hard to beat. Support amongst the team for fellow players was very evident during the four sessions which started as usual with the singles and pairs. One win in the singles and 2 wins in the pairs got the team off to a good start. In the triples and fours that followed there was a draw and loss in the triples and win and loss in the fours. With no break the singles and pairs were back on the mats and continued where they had left off and produced the same result as in the first session. The triples and pairs were not going to be out done and dominated the final session with wins on all mats. The final shots score was Devon 216 and Buckinghamshire 156 and Devons wining points score was 31 - 9. The Devon team will be travelling back to Daventry for the semi finals where they are due to meet Essex who also won there semi finals encounter at Daventry today.

Exeter League Results for Christow B & C

Last night Christow 'B' were away to Broadclyst 'B' and Christow 'C' home to Silverton 'B'. Christow 'B' (Maureen, Chris & Derek) played against Janet, Marion and Margaret for Broadclyst and were in the frame for 10 ends. At end 8 we were 7-5 up ; end 9  8-7 down and end 10 10-7 down. From there on Broadclyst nailed it and the wheels came off our trolley. It was a good night and all credit to the ladies of Broadclyst who deserved to win....Derek.
Christow 'C' (Ava, Ian & Brad) had a tight game and looked from the start that the game was going to go down to the final end, and that was the case. Christow took one shot on what was a tense final end and won the match by 3 shots. Well done Christow.

Abbotskerswell Away Report

Yesterday evening 12 players with support from Chloe and Ralph travelled to Abbotskerswell for our next match in the Teignbridge League. Before the tea break, Carol, Ian & Tom played on mat 1 (by the kitchen). The game was very close all the way through with most of the play favoured to one side of the mat and the match going to the final end with just one shot separating the two teams. Playing on Mat 2 (by the door) which also favoured one side of the mat, were Janet, Brad & Jim. Their game was close up to the 8th end when Abbots scored 4 shots on the next end and took a 5 shot lead. Christow were unable to score again over the remaining ends, the result did not reflect on the standard of play. After tea Mary, Geoff & Neil had another close match on mat 1 and also went into the final end with on shot between the two teams. Christow managed to score 4 shots on the final end to win the match. Edwin, Sean & Trevor had similar fortunes experienced by Jim's team but could not get themselves onto the scoreboard until the 6th end. As usual there was some great bowling from all Christow players on the night. Oh what fun is to bowl at Abbotskerswell !!
Points score:  Abbotskerswell 8 Christow 2
Session 1.
Mat 1 - Christow 9 Abbots 11    Mat 2 - Christow 5 Abbots 13
Session 2.
Mat 1 - Christow 10 Abbots 7    Mat 2 - Christow 4 Abbots 14

Devon A County Team Match Report against Surrey

Today the Devon A County team made their way up to Tamworth to meet Surrey in the first round of the knockout stage in the ICC competition. Representing Christow were, Carol, Ian, Jim, Neil, Sean and Tom (reserve). Sean was playing his first match for the County and was a great asset as number one in Dave Tarr's triples team. The first session got under way to a great start with both the Singles and Pairs winning on all mats. Then it was the turn of the triples and fours to play, they carried on with the same high standard of bowls and won both of the triples games and one of the fours with the other fours team only missing out by 1 shot. After lunch Devon did not let up on the pressure and won on all mats in the four disciplines. Shots scored were 250 Devon 122 Surrey. This gave Devon a record points score of 38 - 2. Well done to everyone. The team travel up to Daventry next weekend to play the next round.
