John Warman Memorial Trophy at South Brent

This is wishing all your club members a Merry Christmas and Happy New Years bowling.  In November I sent out an invite for the Charity event we hold each year in South Brent.  I realise that it is a busy time of year and the deadline isn’t until the 31st December but I was wondering if any of your clubs intend to take part in the event.  Everyone who attended last year and have replied said how much they enjoyed the competition.  It would help me an awful lot if you wouldn’t mind letting me know one way or the other.
Best wishes,
Gary Hooper.

Christmas Party Pictures

Here are a few pictures from last nights Christmas Bowls night. The evening was very enjoyable with a mix of bowls and a lovely buffet supplied by all the Christow members. Well done to Ian's partner Jackie who picked up a bowl for the first time and joined in and to Tom for his fancy dress efforts (see picture below).

Christmas Party to Start at 6pm

The Christmas Party will now be starting at 6.15pm. Please could we all be there for 6pm to allow time to set up the mats etc. Thanks.

Exminster A Beat Christow A Without a Bowl Played !

The match between Christow A and Exminster A had to be forfeited last night. This was due to a Christow player being unable to play at very short notice. Ken, Val and David from Exminster were given a game before tea so not to have had a wasted journey.

Christow v Buckfast Match Report (Teignbridge League)

Last night 12 Christow players travelled to Buckfastleigh to play our 4th match in the Teignbridge League. The first two matches were underway just before 7.30pm. Tom's team on Mat 1 had a tight game and were just one shot behind on the 10th end, loosing 4 shots to buckfast on the 11th end proved too much to recover from. Ian and his team on Mat 2 were in total control of their destiny from the start and with a score of 15 - 2 by the 10th end were in a great position and finished the match by picking up a further 5 shots on the final end. After tea Neil's team played on Mat 1. Getting off to a steady start with a 5 shot advantage by the 5th end, Buckfast pulled back to level the score at 8 shots each by end 9. Christow managed to score a further 6 to Backfasts 1 over the final 3 ends. The remaining match on Mat 2 saw Trevor and his team in what turned out to be a tight battle after leading the way with a 6th shot advantage by the 6th end. Buckfast levelled the score by the 9th end and took the lead to go into the final end with a 2 shot advantage. Christow were holding 4 shots with one more bowl remaining from Buckfasts skip, he managed to take second shot preventing Christow holding on to the shots they needed.
The bonus points went to Christow and the final score was 6 - 4 to Christow (same result as last year).

Teign Valley Community Hall Refurbishment Consultation

I hope you’ll be pleased to hear that some of the Teign Valley Commmunity Hall committee members have formed a working group to explore options for a refurbishment and update of the hall.
As you may know, the Hall was built in 1998, funded mainly by Sports Lottery money. It used by a wide range of groups from all over the Valley and beyond for all kinds of meetings, classes, events and private functions. It is a fantastic, well-used facility which has been run and maintained by the Hall Committee for the last 20 years. But there is now scope to make improvements and updates to the building that go beyond the routine repairs and which will make it more efficient and environmentally-friendly to run, and better equipped and more comfortable for its users. This will be costly, so we will be applying for external funding again to pay for the project.
We are seeking expert advice on the technical aspects, but before we design the project and apply for funding, we are consulting the Teign Valley community and other hall users to gather ideas on what people would like to see by way of refurbishment and upgrades to the building. We want as wide a range of views as possible, representing the full range of residents, whatever their age, needs, interests, or time living in the area, in order to make sure that we have a facility which will continue to be used by the whole community for the next 20 years.
Complete the short survey at: tinyurl.com/TVCH2018
(or try https://exeter.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/tvchconsultation if the short address doesn’t work for you).
The survey is open from 1st to 10th December and every survey completed by a Teign Valley resident will be entered for a £25 cash prize draw.
There will be an open meeting at 7.30, Tuesday 18th December in the Bowden room when we’ll present and discuss the survey results, invite further views from those present, and hold the draw for the £25 cash prize. Please come along if you can.
Thank you in advance for your support.
