Teignbridge League Match against Bishopsteignton

Yesterday evening (26th February) Christow braved the wet night and after a hunt for a parking space gathered in the Bishopsteignton Hall for their penultimate match of the season. There were mixed fortunes in the two matches before tea, Mat 1 were tied at 10 shots each on the 11th end, Christow took shot with the last bowl after the Bishops skip had taken shot with his after being a few shots down. Mat 2 saw Bishops take the win after dominating much of the game. After tea and biscuits Christow managed to dominate Bishops on both mats with a healthy shot difference, especially on Mat 1. The extra 2 bonus points were won by Christow.

Silverton Charity Triples Report

Today (25th February) Silverton held their annual Charity Triples Tournament. The day was very well organised and saw 16 teams play 3 games each in their group of 4 teams which the winners and runners up went through to the knockout stage Christow sent 2 teams, Christow 1 (Carol. Jim & Tom), Christow 2 (Maureen, Geoff & Neil). Christow 1 were unable to take one of the top spots in their group as they lost their 3 games. The matches were very close and saw them finish only 1 or 2 shots down. Christow 2 managed to win 2 out of their 3 matches both with a good shot difference and qualified for the quarter finals (knockout stage), where unfortunately they were beaten by Uffculme. Still it was a very enjoyable day of bowls.

Christow B v Exminster B Result

Christow B (Ralph, Edwin & Brad) played their penultimate match last night (22nd February) of this seasons Exeter league. Christow went ino the match sitting at the top of the league table and with a lead over Broadclyst B of 2 poins and a very healthy shot difference. Christow sadly were unable to overcome Stephen's team who scored on 10 out of the first 12 ends. Christow made a skip change which changed their fortunes and saw them pick up 6 shots on the final 3 ends. It is looking like the final match against Silverton C will determine who wins the League in Division 2.

Abbotskerswell Spring Fours Competition

Ray Vyse has put out another request for a team for their Fours competition on Saturday 22nd April. If you are interested in playing please let Neil know. If it helps Trevor and Neil are interested in playing. We played last year and it was a good day with very nice food.

Summary of Tens Away Match against Totnes Creameries

Yesterday evening (20th February) 10 players from Christow and supporters travelled to Dartington to meet Totnes Creameries in the away leg of the County Championship Competition (West Area - Group 1) also known as the Tens Competition.  Fortunes were reversed from the home leg played 8 days before with the Singles and Pairs both loosing their matches, Jim (singles) only by 1 shot and the Pairs (Trevor & Neil) by 10 or so shots. Swiftly moving on the Triples (Edwin, Carol & Steve) in the second half played a great game and held on to a lead they had built up from the start, winning by 3 shots. The Fours (Janet, Brad, Geoff & Tom) also had a super game against Rose Morrision's team and won the match after dominating the play. So after the 2 legs it all came down to overall shots as wins were tied at 4 games a piece, Totnes managed to score only 2 or 3 more then Christow which takes them through to the next round of the Competition.

Teignbridge League Match against Kingsteignton

Christow travelled to Kingsteignton last night (16th February) for their latest match in the Teignbridge League. The evening went very much Christows way after healthy wins were recorded on both mats before tea, although mat 1 had a deficit of 4 shots half way through their game and decided to swap the number 2 and skip which allowed both players to refocus and win the game. After tea Christow had mixed fortunes with a win on mat 1 and a win for Kingsteignton on mat 2. A nice evening with very friendly opposition. A very good result with the addition of the 2 bonus points for overall shots..

Broadclyst A v Christow B Result

Last night (15th February) Christow B (Derek, Chris & Neil) travelled to Broadclyst for their 10th match in the Exeter League. The match was very even for the first half with no team scoring more than 1 shot. On ends 10 & 12 Christow picked up 3 and 4 shots respectively, this gave them a good lead which they held on to the finish. The match was very enjoyable for all.

Summary of Tens Home Match against Totness Creameries

Last night (12th February) we met Totnes Creameries in County Championship Competition (West Area - Group 1) also know as the Tens.The Singles and Pairs were played first over 10 ends with two practice ends first. Both matches were won by Christow after nervous starts, singles by a good shot margin and a few shots in hand for the pairs. In the Triples match that followed Christow were up against some aggressive bowls from Totnes and were 8 shots behind on the penultimate end, they got their own back by picking up 5 shots after removing Totnes's only close bowl. In the Fours being played alongside the match was very close all the way to the end, Totnes picked up a 2 shot lead on end 9 and managed to add another on the final end after Christow had been holding at least a couple of shots before the last bowls were played. Overall not a bad result, a couple of wins on their speedy mats on the 20th will keep us in the running.

Teignbridge League Match against Abbotskerswell

Last night (8th February) we met Abbotkerswell at Christow in the Teignbridge League competition. The evening started with a very competitive match on mat 1 which saw Christow go behind by 6 shots in the first half of the match. Christow caught up and took a 3 shot lead by the 11th end, Abbots managed to pick up 3 shots on the final end and finishing with a draw of 12 shots each. The match on mat 2 was dominated by Christow and saw them win by 17 shots to 5. After tea fortunes changed and Christow took an early lead on mat 1 which they held on to throughout wining by 15 shots to 6. Mat 2 was not so kind to Christow who had a hard battle and finished very close towards the end with 9 shots to Abbots 11. Christow took the 2 bonus points on offer for overall shot difference.

National Qualifiers

Exeter League Trophies

Rob Gayton requires all Trophies for League and Knock Out Cup etc, to be returned to him on or before the next meeting. This takes place on Thursday 2nd March at St Thomas Cricket Club at 7.30pm.

Teignbridge League Match against Buckfastleigh

Last night (1st February) we met Buckfastleigh at Christow in the next round of the Teignbridge League. The matches before tea were both close and saw a win on mat 2 of 11 - 6 and loss on mat 1 by 1 shot, 10 - 11..After tea the game on mat 2 was very different and Christow dominated the game from the start and won by 17 - 3. Mat 1 was again a close game which Christow managed to win after going behind briefly, the final score being 17 - 12. Christow took the 2 bonus points on offer for overall shots.
