Area Challenge and Welsh Gand Prix Competitions

This Sunday sees the Area Challenge take place at ISCA in Exeter. At the Cardiff Bowling Club on Saturday & Sunday the TSR Legal Welsh Grand Prix 2 Bowl Pairs and 3 Bowl Pairs are taking place. Good luck to all who are involved in both of these competitions. Reports to follow.

Teignbridge League Match against Abbotskerswell

Last Tuesday we travelled to Abbotskerswell to play our final match in Teignbridge League. Having already won the league we could relax a little and enjoy the contest. The evening started with a card being handed to Trevor our Captain congratulating Christow on wining the league. After that it went a little downhill with Christow loosing both matches before and after tea. We gave them a good game and enjoyed the challenge that their mats have in store for you or anyone who dares to bowl on.

Christow 'B' Final League Match of the Season

Christow B 31  Silverton C 6
Yesterday evening (22nd March) Christow B (Neil, Edwin & Janet) played their final match of the season which was at home to Silverton C. Silverton scored on the first end but struggled in finding the weight of the mat. Christow scored steadily from then on with Silverton not scoring again until the 8th end. Christow A (Steve, Geoff & Jim) were also playing a match against Wonford which they also won. We were told by Gordon from Silverton after our match that their B team had beaten Broadclyst B on the previous evening. This will make Christow B the winners of Division 2 if this is correct. Well done to Christow B, Derek, Chris, Edwin, Janet, Brad, Ralph & Neil, give yourselves a pat on the back.

Brian Medland Mixed Fours Summary

Christow entered a total of 14 players in yesterday's Brian Medland Mixed Fours Competition at ISCA. They made up 3 full teams and a scratch team of 2 Christow players and 2 ladies (Jean & Joan) from Bishopsteignton. The teams were luckily in different groups of which there were 5 and all played 3 games with a short break between games 2 & 3. The winners of each group and 3 best runners up all went through to the knockout stages after lunch. Brad's team (Ralph,Ava & Chloe) won 1 of their 3 games, hopefully Ava & Chloe enjoyed the experience as this was their first time bowling at this level and at ISCA. Steve's team (Sue, Sean & Beryl) won 2 out f their 3 first round matches but missed out by a whisker in going throught to the knockout stage due to shot difference. Both remaining teams Geoff's (Edwin, Janet & Maureen) and the scratch team (Trevor & Neil) made it to the knockout stage. Geoff's was beaten in the quarter finals, not sure who by. The scratch team beat Sidbury (Eric Pavey) but lost to Bow (Nick Wyatt) in the semii finals. The eventual winners were Winkleigh who beat Bow in the final.

Devon County Short Mat Bowling Association

NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING.
The 27th Devon County Short Mat Bowling Association Annual General Meeting will take place on 2nd April 2017 at approximately 4.45-5pm, immediately after the Area Challenge at The ISCA Bowling Centre. This will be followed by the presentation of trophies. Every registered member of the association is entitled  to attend but only two representatives from each affiliated club are allowed to vote. Please register on arrival.

TEIGNBRIDGE FOURS TOURNAMENT – SATURDAY 11th MARCH 2017

On Saturday the Teignbridge fours tournament was held in the Teign Valley Community hall Christow. This was the 27th year of the tournament and in the past each league club transported mats and fenders etc. to the chosen venue where over forty teams would compete for the trophy. Now it is much less work with Christow SMBC providing the equipment and laying out the hall ready for play.
This is a charity event in aid of the Exeter Leukaemia Fund. This tournament and a similar Pairs tournament raised sufficient money for us to make a donation of £350.00 to the Fund. Thank you to all the competitors for making this possible. 12 teams played 3 matches of ten ends (55minutes to the sound signal) breaking for a cream tea after two games. £5.00 per player included the three games and the cream tea – a bargain!! The score didn’t matter.
In reality the score did matter with hard fought competitive play and the umpire called to decide on the millimetres between shots.

Skips at the Head

Not all teams were made up of experienced players; Moretonhampstead fielded Jake in his first tournament and Christow A fielded Chloe and Ava in their first tournament. Look out!  All three players played well and in the future they will be able to give anybody a hard game.
At the interval after two games some teams had hills to climb and others were cruising. The shot difference ranged from -25 for one team to +26 for another but the competition was quite tight because the winner was to be decided on points
and shot difference only counted in the event of a draw. In a lot of games the ends were decided

by the skips last wood and generally the teams found the afternoon competitive with all to play for. By the end of the third game only one team had won all of their games with the final results being:

Winners - Christow B 9 points +38 shots

Second -Moretonhampstead 6 points +17 shots
Third - South Brent 6 points and +10 shots

Christow Sports Club AGM

This years AGM will take place at the Teignbridge Village Hall in Christow on Wednesday 10th May at 7.00pm. A form will provided via the notice board for any items you would like to be included in this years agenda.

Wonford Triples CANCELLED

Hi all
Due to a lack of response our APRIL comp is CANCELLED. Anyone who has sent a cheque for this comp please could you email me to let me know if you would like the cheque returned or I can shred it. Our next comp is 24th June (Jubilee Fours) the closing date for entry is 5th May, please respond to this asap as comps can not go ahead without players.

From Daniel Gooding (chairman) Re Exeter League

Dear All.
Following the League Meeting on Thursday evening I think it is important that all Clubs are aware of the situation regarding the future of the League.Brian and Rob are both standing down at the end of the season. Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank them both for all the work they have done over the years, I know they have both given up lots of hours to enable the League to run smoothly, for which I am sure all Clubs are most grateful.
I feel now is the time for each Club in the League to discuss amongst club members the future of the League. The long and short of the situation is; If by the League A.G.M on THURSDAY 27TH APRIL there are no volunteers to replace Brian and Rob, it is likely that the League will cease to exist.I am sure all Clubs would be disappointed if this happened, my feelings are that all Clubs would be affected if the League ceased. League matches offer a competitive edge, no matter how good a club roll up night is, it will always lack the competitive edge. If competitive members don't have League matches, some will lose interest, this could also affect club membership numbers.
Please discuss this with your members over the next few weeks, is there someone in your club with some free time to offer the League?
I know Rob is happy to assist a new secretary on a handover basis. Should anyone be interested in helping or require any further information on what is involved, please let Rob or myself know. I feel we have to address this situation now, and not leave it until the A.G.M.
A new Secretary will not be "thrown in the deep end" help will be available.

A new date has been set for our final match which is away to Abbotskeswell. It will now take place on Monday 27th March at 7.15pm. Many thanks to Abbotskerswell for their cooperation.

Exeter League Meeting Report

A meeting was held last night at St Thomas Cricket Club in Exeter. Representatives from all but one club attended the 20 minute meeting. After apologises etc, and the treasurers report,venues for the finals of the Win Graham and Knockout Cup were decided These will be Broadclyst on 29th March and Wonford on 17th March respectively. The well publicised news of Rob Gayton (secretary) and Brian Glanvill's (treasurer) resignations were the main topic of discussion. Representatives were asked by Daniel Gooding (chairman) to approach their respective clubs for possible replacements for the two positions. Fears were voiced that the League will not continue if these vacancies were not filled. The last item was to arrange a date for the AGM, this is to be held at the same venue on Thursday 27th April at 7.30pm.

Teignbridge League Match Postponed

The match against Abbotskerswell scheduled for Monday 6th Match has been postponed. As soon as a new date is confirmed it will be posted here.
