It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Edwin Cleave, a long standing member of Christow SMBC.
Edwin leaves a very big space on our club nights, but still fills our hearts with fond memories.
Our condolences go out to Edwin's friends and family.
Edwin's funeral is to be held at 11am on December 30th at Christow church.
Rest in peace, Edwin.

There will be much merriment and all-round good fun on December 21st when Christow SMBC will hold its Christmas Club Night.
Trevor, who is Head Elf, has asked that any attendees on the evening contribute some food to help with the buffet! No alcohol please...... and no mistletoe!!
Please let the head elf know what you intend on contributing to avoid us being overloaded with sausage rolls!
Mat fees are waived for the evening and the head elf will no doubt have some inventive games in mind...... all based around short mat bowls!
The fun kicks off at 7pm, as usual, so please be there from 6:30pm to help set up the short mat grotto!

It was a pleasure to finally see Buckland taking part in league matches.
Christow picked up another 10 points and came out well on top when they welcomed Buckland to the hall last night.
It was a clean sweep for Christow in all 4 games.
Before tea, the theme for the evening was set with a 15-5 win on mat 1 and a 12-5 win on mat 2.
After tea Christow strengthened their position winning 19-6 on mat 1 and 20-6 on mat 2

Christow picked up 8 valuable points and came out well on top against Buckfastleigh last night in their first home Teignbridge League fixture for 3 years.
Despite losing a close game 10-12 in the first session on mat 1 it was Christow who dominated the evening. Mat 2 saw Christow win in comfortable style 24-2
It was a clean sweep after tea with Christow winning 16-5 on mat 1 and 16-4 on mat 2

It was not the best of starts to Christow's delayed start to the 2022/23 Teignbridge league (our first league fixture for 3 years)
The format remains the same with 2 triples before tea and 2 after.
Tom had to quickly rearrange the playing order due to a couple of players getting lost en-route!!!!
The 2 games before tea ended up even. On mat 1 Christow came out on top winning 17-5 while the other mat was not such good news as Christow lost 16-7.
After tea it seemed as though Christow has taken their foot of the pedal losing on mat 1 by 12 points to 4. On mat 2 the game was pretty close all the way and it came down to the last end. Christow were trailing by a single point but managed to pick up 2 points to win 11-10.

Steve has organised an equipment inspection morning this Thursday at 09:30.
We have managed to acquire some fairly new mats, and sundry items, and the plan for this Thursday is to have a proper look at the equipment.

The Devon A team, with Christow's Ava and Ian in the line-up won 27-13, while the premier team won 22-18.

Good luck to the Christow bowlers who are taking part in the Fours at Isca on Saturday, and the Devon Team event on Sunday.
Commencing next Friday (September 16th), the Friday morning sessions will now start at 11am and finish at 1pm.

Bring along a friend or two to give them a taster of the fun and frivolity. Their first session free.

The A.G.M. takes place at the Community Hall on Wednesday 18th May. All are welcome. If anyone has any ideas how to reinvigorate the sports that are played ,please come along and share them.
On Sunday 24th April Christow held their Inaugural Invite competition.
The competition involved teams from Abbotskerswell, Totnes, Nomads and Christow.
Four teams of triples from each club, split into four groups, played each other in a round robin format. The top two teams from each group going through to the cup competition, the remaining teams going through to the plate competition.
After all the initial games had been played Christow found themselves with two teams through to the cup. Unfortunately only The Roosters made it through to the semi-final, The Wolf Pack losing by one point to The Milky Bar Kids.
The final of the Cup competition was fought by The Arabs and The Camels, The Arabs coming out on top.
The Plate competition was won by The Gold Tops with a victory over The Young Ones by one shot.

No Bowls Easter Sunday. Back in harness again Wednesday 20th April.

Ava and Sean travelled to Wales over the weekend to take part in the England Under 21 vs Wales Under 21 International.
The competition consisted of 6 rounds with each player involved in 5 matches, a mixture of pairs, triples and fours.
England won the first two rounds. The third round resulted in a draw.
After Lunch Wales fought back winning the next round.
In the final round Wales were winning on all mats apart from one. Winning on that Mat would have resulted in a draw where shot difference would have been examined.
England won their match on the last mat 10 -5 to win the competition.
Final score:
England 44 points, Wales 36 points. (England 357 shots. Wales 311 shots)

Christow played host to Totnes Creameries on Sunday January 30th for a friendly match.
Held over 2 sessions of 4 triples, either side of tea, the game overall was a closely fought affair.
Christow had the upper hand in the first session, winning 2 games, losing one, with one game drawn. Overall points for the first session were Christow 41 – Totnes 36.
Christow lost momentum after tea going down 3 to 1 in games, with the overall points of Christow 42 - Totnes 48.
Over both sessions, Totnes won on points by a single shot…. 83 – 84 in their favour.
An enjoyable afternoon, with the away match to look forward to on Wednesday February 16th (see separate post below).

On February 2nd we will play the first and Second rounds, followed by the semi finals and the final on February 9th. The number of ends, along with the other rules, are still to be decided. The first match drawn will be on mat 1 and so on, with the second round games using different mats.
