Last night Christow B (Derek, Chris and Neil) played Silverton A (Jack, John and Danny). Play was on their fast mat that turned a lot on the left. Play started evenly with 2-2 after 4 ends to become 2-8 to Silverton after a slight misunderstanding and a dropped four. Not to be outdone Christow made this 5-8 to keep the game alive. At 5-10 to Silverton Neil got some help from his team and the score got to 9-10 on the eleventh end. Christow scored a three to make it 12-10 on the 12th end and Silverton swapped their team around with John taking the lead and Jack at two. They took two singles to level the score at 12-12 at 14 ends. In the final end Christow were holding when Jack moved the Jack to left hand edge of the mat (remember the turning side) for what looked to be a measure. Danny’s first wood was perfect, drawing across the mat and finishing close to the jack but there was still room to draw shot. Neil was a tad short with his first wood and Danny proved that his first wood was no fluke by drawing a second shot. I could feel John and Jack start to count their chickens but Neil had the last wood. We all expected Neil to draw across the mat – after all there was no other shot – was there??? He elected to play down the left side of the mat aiming to hit Danny’s wood and stop in the gap. This is exactly what he did – down the left side, just the right weight, hit the other woods and took shot to win the match 13-12 to Christow with his last wood. Neil in characteristically modest manner said “I just thought that was the thing to do” – Nobody else thought it was possible!! Well done Neil.
Just to repeat Christow B 13 shots – Silverton A 12 shots.

A very informative report. We have a budding journalist in our midst.I am also certain that both Derek and Chris ,despite their modesty ,contributed to what was an impressive victory.Well done team.
ReplyDeleteA great team effort as you say Steve. I have since edited Derek's report slightly to get me out of the spotlight...I hate bright lights.
ReplyDeleteWe have widened the doors in the hall Neil, so you should be OK!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThere are many ways to have fun in the sun than sunbathing by the pool. Many people, and especially more active people, prefer to do something such as outdoor volleyball, tennis, lawn bowling and more. Most of these are great for your regular outdoor fun and are great activities for people of all ages. This applies especially to lawn bowling, in my opinion, because you do not require lessons as you do in tennis and other outdoor sports. INDOOR BOWLS MATS FOR SALE
