Teignbridge League Raise £350 for Rowcroft Hospice

On Saturday the Teignbridge Fours tournament took place at the Teign Valley Community Hall. The aim was to have an enjoyable afternoon of competitive bowls and raise money for the Rowcroft Hospice. Christow S.M.B.C. prepared the hall laying out six mats for the matches and the tables and chairs for the cream tea. Many thanks to the members of the club who turned up early to lay out the hall and a special thanks to the Rundle family who were there from the beginning and worked hard to get the hall ready.  Play commenced just before 1.30 p.m. with two games of ten ends before tea and one game after tea. As always play was tight, even when the scores didn’t go your way. In the first game Christow A and Kingsteignton A finished with a draw of 5 shots each (one end was a tie) and Bishopsteignton showed their intent by winning 16 -6. In the second match Abbotskerswell, Christow A Ideford and Mortenhampstead decided their games by one shot achieved over the last end, while Exminster had a comfortable 15-1 win – many thought that the mat should be burnt!! (it was brand new this season). After two games Buckfast and Bishops were vying for the trophy, so the third game was all to play for. At the half way stage it looked as though Buckfast were scoring enough shots to just pip Bishops but there were playing Kingsteignton A who had other ideas and again as a result of the last ends the game finished a draw 13-13. While this drama was being played out Bishops went on to beat Christow B by one shot at 9-8 again down to the last end.
A great afternoon’s bowling with twists and turns all the way. Bishopsteignton won the tournament by winning all their games and scoring a shot difference of 16. Congratulations to Bishopsteignton.
£100 was raised at the Pairs tournament and £250 at this Fours tournament so the Teignbridge League is able to donate £350 to the Rowcroft Hospice.
Thank you to all the league players.....Derek
